Sydney Spurs Supporters Named Most Passionate in the World
Official Supporters Club "OzSpurs" have been crowned champions of "The Road to Glory" by Tottenham Hotspur and Under Armour.
15/03/13, Amsterdam, Netherlands; In November last year, Tottenham Hotspur and Under Armour announced that they would be challenging Spurs fans from across the globe to prove their commitment and love for their team by following ‘The Road to Glory’.
The 8 week long contest set out to find and reward the most passionate Tottenham Hotspur supporters on a virtual journey around the world, consisting of 11 challenges. The challenges were inspired by historic Spurs events or moments of fandom including a footwork challenge in Brazil to celebrate the home to some of the most skilled players on the planet, and a karaoke challenge in Hong Kong whereby fans had to film themselves chanting “When the Spurs Go Marching In” in a public place.
OzSpurs, The Official Supporters Club of Tottenham Hotspur in Australia impressed the panel of professional judges with their dedication to The Road to Glory by submitting consistently unique and creative content for each challenge along the journey. OzSpur’s commitment has earned five of their team members the ultimate reward – a VIP trip to London for Tottenham Hotspur’s final match of the season against Sunderland on May 19 2013. Not only will OzSpurs watch the game from the executive Under Armour box at White Hart Lane, but they will be hosted by none other than Spurs legend Ledley King.
OzSpurs battled it out against 200 other teams to claim the grand prize. OzSpurs was founded in 2001, to provide a way for ex-pats and Australian Spurs fans a way to keep in touch and watch their team together. The club has grown incredibly over the past 12 years and now has over 400 paid members and host meetups for every match around Australia, no matter if it’s 9pm or 5am.
Amongst the judges who selected OzSpurs as winners of The Road to Glory was Tottenham Hotspur’s former Captain and current Club Ambassador Ledley King. Talking about the contest he said: “The Road to Glory has given those who are unable to make it to every match the chance to show their passion and support for their club in a way that we’ve never seen before. The level of creativity and effort that has gone into each challenge has proven that our fans are prepared to go above and beyond to prove their devotion to the club. Well done to everyone who entered.”
Tommy Silver of the winning team OzSpurs said: “It still hasn’t sunk in that we’ve won ‘The Road to Glory’ and that we’ll be flying to London in May to watch our favourite team play! We’ve had so much fun taking part in all of the challenges over the past eight weeks and can’t wait to get to White Hart Lane to put all of our virtual supporting into practice!”
