OzSpurs showed Jose the way with some fine attacking performances that saw them bring home the inaugural Sutherland Sharks EPL Supporters Club Trophy. Despite temperatures well into the 30s, the Sydney OzSpurs side were relentless in their displays of attacking football.

The first game of the round-robin saw us off to a shaky start, going down to an early goal against Liverpool. However, the boys soon found their way and started piling on the pressure. Liverpool defended stoutly but were undone by a screamer from Derren O'Brien. As both sides tired more opportunities arose but both keepers were in fine form, meaning a 1-1 was the final outcome.

During the break we overheard the Chelsea team planning their tactics of utilising a false 9 (an incredible feat with 8 on the pitch) and bringing wingbacks up to join the attack. Paf decided we would counter this by f***ing running around a bit, and the tactical masterstroke undid Chelsea as we powered through the game to win 3-1.

With Man City & Liverpool drawing their game we sat joint top with Liverpool, with all to play for in the last game. Despite Man City buying all the local Sydney talent, we stormed into an early lead goals from Glenn Uzzel, Ash Munn, once again Derren O’Brien and Aaron Burn saw us end Chelsea's hopes of a place in the final.

Topping the table is never enough in Australia, so we had to play a final against Liverpool, who, although they finished a distant second, proved to be our most challenging opponent.

The final began well, and there was no handball after 30 seconds!! Buoyed by this, we pushed on and soon that man O’Brien popped in another one. Sound defending from Paf and Adam Meyer, along with another string of saves from Rob Anderson kept Liverpool at Bay. Then, with one of the goals of the tournament, Jason Cachia made sure that Scouse hearts were broken - OzSpurs were Champions! After the final whistle they attempted to engage us in some banter, but when they were reminded of their lack of employment opportunities they soon quietened down!!

The whole day was a hot but enjoyable on and OzSpurs would like to thank James O’Brien for organising the day and a special mention to young Derren, who was a revelation in midfield. We look forward to coming back next year and defending our cup.
