Presidents update
As I sit here and write this email to you all, we are two wins away from our first piece of silverware since 2008! A second leg trip to the Arctic Circle to play on a pitch straight out of an IKEA catalogue, where hopefully the boys can avoid any slip-ups (quite literally) and avoid both defeat and frostbite and make it to the final in Bilbao.
I think we can all agree. This season has been a disappointment, with all the excitement and expectations Ange delivered in the first season. Only too often this year have teams worked us out and turned us over. The days of white hart lane being a place of fear for teams to travel to literally became 3 3-point lane for teams looking for a win.
Who knows what next season will bring? I’m sure there will be changes, and on the subject of change, The OzSpurs committee will have some vacancies for next season for anyone looking to get involved. Our constitution states that members can serve two terms in their elected positions and so we are now actively looking for a number of volunteers to join us to help continue the great work of the many before and take OzSpurs to the next level.
The committee has voted and made the decision to split the role of ticketing and website into two due to the increased number of ticketing applications, so an expression of interest for the roles of
Ticketing
Website
Treasurer
Chapter Liaison Officer
Communication/social media x 2
If any of these roles are of interest, please submit your expression of interest to [email protected].
The Sydney National is almost upon u,s and it’s not too late to join us for what could be a memorable weekend. We kick off on Friday night at the Surry Hills hotel, where we will be joined live from London by one of our legends Sandro!!.
Saturday sees the return of Footgolf, state v state and everyone is welcome. We hit the harbour on Saturday night where we will induct some of our legends into the OzSpurs hall of fame under the spectacle of the vivid festival.
No National is the same without the AGM, a chance for you to ask questions to the committee, bring forward suggestions, and play a part in shaping the direction of OzSpurs.
Wouldn’t be a National without a quiz night, and this year is no different. Grab your teammates and start studying, I’m sure there will be a curveball question or two!
Last year's version of Hoddle and Waddle, Jacinta and Paf have evolved into Sunday night’s entertainment with the formation of their new band, Substation X.
Playing a number of classic and maybe a few originals, a great way to finish off the weekend before the last game of the season.
With next year celebrating 25 years of OzSpurs, the committee have been working on bringing our members some memorable experiences and merchandise to celebrate the occasion—more news to follow.
I hope to see you all in Sydney for what will hopefully be a momentous weekend.
Sean
